Summit Seniors Grants

Criteria for Awards

Summit Seniors invites you to apply for a grant as part of our annual distribution of funds to the community. We direct these funds to organizations that have existing programs or want to create new programs for senior citizens in Summit County.

Grants are awarded based on financial need, benefit to and number of seniors, and the impact on people served. Organizations that have provided assistance to Summit Seniors (e.g. help at annual rummage sale, winter games, etc.) will be given consideration.

The 50+ Winter Games is an annual fundraiser for the Summit Senior Center.  The 2022 50+ Winter Games were not held this year. In lieu of the 50+ Winter Games, Summit Seniors hosted 2 events, an Alpine event on February 14 and a Nordic event on February 15, which featured a reduced number of games/competitions that are held in the usual 50+ Winter Games. Both events were free this year and were for athletes who are 50-years-old and older.

The Alpine event on Monday, February 14, featured a Giant Slalom Race on the mountain at the Keystone Ski Resort.

The second event was a relaxed, fun morning of Nordic inspired events at the Frisco Nordic Center on Tuesday, February 15.   There were NO timed or race course events this year; all events were run as fun group activities. Events included a snowball toss, biathlon, 4k group classic ski, 4k group skate ski, 2.5k group snowshoe, and free lunch.   Summit Seniors are grateful to the Town of Frisco for their in-kind grant that allowed us to use the Frisco Nordic Center facility and for promoting this event on their website.

The 40th 50+ Winter games was held February 9, 10, & 11, 2020 and over $13,000 was raised to support Summit Seniors and our support of Summit County senior citizens through our grants. Learn more about the 50+ Winter Games, sponsorship, and see results and photos for 2020.  For 2023, the Alpine events will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023, and the date for the Nordic events is to be determined.  To volunteer for the 50+ Winter Games in the future, contact Cathy Sapp at

The Margarita Booth happens in the summer during the Frisco BBQ challenge, 4th of July celebration, where seniors set up a booth and sell margaritas with proceeds going to the Senior Center. If interested, there will be a sign up at the front desk of the Senior Center when it gets closer.
