Wednesdays, 9 a.m.| April – October

Canine Companions hike mostly moderate-level backcountry trails on Wednesdays. Reasonably well-behaved dogs, as well as dog-less (also well-behaved) people, are welcome. The group meets at 9:00 a.m. to carpool. Bring leashes.

Every Thursday, 1:15 p.m.

This dynamic evidence-based class will help you improve your balance and decrease your risks for falls. We work on dynamic balance facilitation, CORE strengthening, gait skills and coordination. This class is taught by physical therapists Pat Aden and Gini Patterson who are certified N’Balance instructors. Optional class donations accepted. Wednesdays, 9 a.m. | June – September

Summit Older Bushwhackers (SOBs) backcountry hikes are weather dependent on Wednesdays, meeting at 9 a.m. Hiking trails average five to six miles round-trip with an elevation gain around 1,000 to 1,500 feet.

Tuesdays, 9 a.m.

Evidence has shown Dr. Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Arthritis program helps prevent falls and improves health and the quality of life for older adults. Tai chi movements appear gentle and graceful, but they contain much power and internal strength. This is an excellent opportunity to come and learn more about this exercise. Facilitator Kim Greene will review the basic principles of tai chi and provide a demonstration of its fundamental forms.

Tuesdays, 9 a.m. | June – September

Walkie-Talkies is a moderate-level hiking group, ideal for those who are comfortable with a faster-paced hike at shorter distances. They hike on backcountry trails on Tuesdays, meeting at 9:00 a.m. to carpool to the trailhead. Hike distances are two to six miles round-trip, with an elevation gain of no more than 1,800 feet. The group starts with easier trails in June and progresses to longer, more difficult hikes throughout the season. These hikes usually have a destination that includes mining artifacts, wildflowers and/or spectacular views (that’s where the talking comes in).

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 10:00 a.m.

Yoga classes vary depending on the instructor, but all focus on breathing, balance, strength and flexibility. All levels are welcome. Most people leave a $5 tip for the instructor as they are not paid, however tipping is voluntary and not a requirement. Non members are also welcome but are charged $10 per class. Mats are available. Staying fit or getting fit really helps one enjoy the other activities available to you here in Summit County.
